Yoga and Fitness Classes

“Over the years Arnie has built an amazing Yoga Practice at the Archstone Van Ness Studio. As a long time student I’ve accepted many new challenges and see renewed flexibility, an inner calm and the desire to push myself a little more when it comes to overall fitness as well as yoga. It is both a pleasure and an honor to have her as my Yoga Master.”

Personal Training

Arnie Reilly's Health for Life provides the discipline, structure, and motivation along with progressively challenging workouts to help you reach your fitness goals. Trainingwith us is the most efficient and safe way to get into peak shape. Golf, Tennis, Soccer, Squash, or just maintaining a functional healthy lifestyle. Whatever you play, we can make you better! Our Trainers know how to make you faster and morepowerful, as well as less susceptible to injury. We give young athletes the extra edge to excel, and be prepared for the next level by combining sports drills, agility training, strength and flexibility into one awesome workout.

The strength training component is often overlooked. Most women are either intimidated, fear that it will "bulk" them up," or simply don't like the thought of lifting weights. Yet, it is the only form of exercise that helps us burn calories at rest. Cardiovascular exercise helps you burn more calories as we are doing it, but strength training helps us burn more calories as you are sitting behind the desk. This is due to the increased muscle tone. Three additional pounds of muscle will help us burn an additional 10,000 calories a month! We need to do our strength training routine 2-3 times per week, involving all major muscle groups. It can decrease obesity, osteoporosis, arthritis, injuries to joints and muscles, and low back pain.

WELCOME TO YOU

Still wondering if hiring a Personal Trainer is right for you?

Here are Five Fabulous Reasons?.

  1. You just don't have a clue.
The last time you worked out regularly, Star Wars had just premiered for the first time. Or, maybe you're a whiz at aerobic exercise but the thought of entering the weight room section of the gym makes you break out in hives. If you are committed but in need of guidance, six sessions with a personal trainer will help you get back into the swing of strength training on your own personal schedule.

  2. You've hit a fitness plateau.
When your workout routine gets too 'routine' you stop seeing progress in strength gains. A personal trainer will help get you back on track with a workout regimen that will take you to a new level of fitness and continue to motivate you with the latest in strength training principles.

  3. You're recovering from an injury or illness.
Many of our trainers work in conjunction with physicians, physical therapists and chiropractors to assist clients with the recovery process. A nationally accredited personal trainer will help you incorporate your current plan and demonstrate how to draw the line between pushing yourself and overdoing it.

  4. You want to join the race?
Or climb a mountain, train for a triathlon, cycle through Europe or begin a regular walking program. A personal trainer can design an individual, sport specific program tailored to meet your goals assisting you to achieving excellent health.

  5. You know if you have to go it alone, it won't get done.
For many clients, showing up to exercise is easier when a personal trainer is waiting. We understand! There's something to be said about the motivational value of making an appointment. If you fell off the exercise wagon, there's no better way to safely get back into shape than to work out with a personal trainer.

Lose ten percent of your weight in 2011? Here is the rational:

New Years Resolution 2005 – I will go on the Grapefruit Diet until I get my weight down to 170 pounds.

New Years Resolution 2006 – I will go the Pritkin Diet and to the gym once a week until I get my weight down to 180 pounds.

New Years Resolution 2007 – I will go on the Atkins Diet and go to the gym twice a week until I get my weight down to 190 pounds.

New Years Resolution 2008 – I will go on the South Beach diet and go the gym three times a week until I get my weight down to 200 pounds.

New Years Resolution 2009 – I will go on the Mediterranean Diet and go to the gym every morning until I get my weight down to 210 pounds.

New Years Resolution 2010: I plan to gain at least 20 pounds, stop what little exercise I do, and watch TV…

Have you looked back at your heartfelt New Years resolutions of the past and decided to chuck them all?  Have you tried and tried but each year ended up heavier than you were the year before? For most of us with chronic weight management issues, the New Year brings us both hope and fear.
It isn’t that we haven’t tried to diet, or never lost any weight. It’s that we haven’t lost enough weight and we haven’t been able to keep off what we did lose.

I’d like to propose a new goal – lose 10% of your current weight in 2010! So if you weigh 160 pounds, make it your goal to lose 16 pounds in 2010. That’s a trifle over 1 pound per month. Totally realistic, don’t you agree?

Why 10%?

Those of us who are overweight or obese are at increased medical risk. Medical complications of obesity can include pulmonary diseases, nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases, gynecological abnormalities, gout, phlebitis, certain cancers, hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and especially metabolic syndrome.

Research indicates that even modest weight loss of ten percent ob body weight can help restore your bodies ability to function and serve as a protection from some of the most debilitating illnesses. Small changes in what you eat and in how much we exercise can make a ten percent weight loss goal attainable.

Take up the challenge and end 2010 ten percent lighter than you were on January 1, 2010. Imagine what a New Years resolution might be in 2011.
